Miss Gausse was admitted into the Asylum
on the 8th September, 1885, and the Acting Consul for Germany
was informed. At first, it seemed as if the patient's Consul would be responsible for her, if he could satisfy himself that she was a German Subject, but
subsequently, the satisfactory proofs furnished
were referred to Mr von Syburg, in Berlin, and
in his letter (Encl. 13) of the 16th July last (enclosed) intimated that his Government
was not prepared to pay either the Hospital expenses
of Miss Gausse or her passage home.

On the 31st July last these expenses amounted
to $1476.03, i.e., one thousand four hundred and
seventy-six dollars and three cents, and they are going
on.
